CAREER Other Professional Experience: He is in his sixth season in the National Lacrosse League and second with the Edmonton Rush… Brodie is regarded as one of the top players in the National Lacrosse League and was named Best Player in the World by Inside Lacrosse... Ended the 2010 season by being named the NLL's Top Transition Player after notching 47 points (second-best career total) and a career-best 216 loose balls... It was the second straight season he captured the league honor… Has played in four NLL All-Star Games... Broke into the NLL in style being named both the Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year in 2006… Named the first overall pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft out of Georgetown University where he was a two-time First Team All-American and was named Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season.
College/Amateur: Named to the Team Canada for the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships…Won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships… Won a gold medal for Team Canada and earned Best Defenseman honors at the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships in London, Ontario... He earned All-American honors in 2004 and 2005, while at Georgetown University… He was also named the 2005 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and was the recipient of the Outstanding Division I Defensive Player of the Year… Ranks among GU’s all-time leaders in ground balls… Named as one of the five finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy as a junior… Recipient of the Billy Evans Award presented to the outstanding junior... Named First Team All-ECAC after finishing fifth in the nation in ground balls per game (6.14) during his junior season.
Canadian Box Lacrosse: Plays defense for the Brampton Excelsiors (OLA)… In 2009, he helped Brampton win second consecutive Mann Cup national Senior “A” championship...Played five years for the Orangeville Northmen Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior “A” team… He notched 78 goals, 101 assists and 175 PIM in 77 games… Won Northmen of the Year in 2002… Received Team Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002…In 2001, he was also namedTop Graduating Player… Played junior lacrosse with the Orangeville Northmen, leading them to an Ontario Junior “A” league championship and was Minto Cup Playoff in 2000.
Personal: He runs the Brodie Merrill Defense Academy… He also works as a lacrosse instructor at The Hill Academy... Biggest Lacrosse Influences are his family, the Sanderson family, Dave Urick and Derek Keenan.
