CAREER
College/Amateur: Completed his college career in 2011 with a trip to the NCAA Division I Finals with the University of Maryland… Burns took an unconventional path to becoming a starter, as he went from a walk-on to a senior captain… The fifth-year senior received the inaugural Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes an athlete who helps his or her team succeed in ways that doesn't normally earn praise… Burns helped get his team involved with the Big Brother program… On the field, he played in 16 games and chipped in with three assists and 24 ground balls… In his career, he played in 63 games and recorded four goals, 14 assists and 110 ground balls… In 2010, he made his first career start on the first midfield in 11-10 loss to No. 1 Virginia (4/3)… Had a terrific all-around game with one goal and a career high five ground balls in 11-9 win over Navy (4/10)… In 2009, he scored a career high two goals in 15-4 win over Air Force (2/14) in Wounded Warrior Project's "Face Off for a Cause"... In 2008 as a redshirt freshman, he made his collegiate debut with three groundballs in 11-6 win at No. 4 Georgetown (2/23)… Was a three-year letterwinner at Severna Park Senior High School and helped lead the Falcons to two state and three county titles… Named First Team All-Anne Arundel County by the Baltimore Sun.
Personal: Has six uncles that played collegiate lacrosse... Majored in communications.
