CAREER
Other professional experience: Was the first-round selection (eighth overall) of the Colorado Mammoth in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft.
College/Amateur: Coates was an All-MAAC selection and a MAAC All-Academic Team member… He anchored the Canisius defense throughout the 2011 season, earning all-conference honors for the first time in his career... Led the Griffs with 52 ground balls, while placing second on the squad with 18 caused turnovers… The senior led all MAAC defenders with 4.33 ground balls per game in 2011, while also adding two goals in his final season with the Golden Griffins… In 2010, he led Canisius with 17 caused turnovers and added 39 ground balls and placed fourth in the MAAC with 1.31 caused turnovers per game… Before college, he played five years of lacrosse at West Park Secondary School and led the team to Ontario “B” Championship… Named the 2006 MVP after leading his team in goals and assists.
Personal: Majored in marketing at Canisius College… Played hockey for the St. Catharines Falcons and recorded 86 points (36+50)… Earned the 2007 Molson's Second Star and the sportsmanship and dedications award… Team won the GHL Championship.
