TWO NATS HONORED WITH WEEKLY INDOOR HONORS

(Hamilton, April 20)… Hamilton Nationals Brodie Merrill and Kyle Rubisch were honored by the National Lacrosse League today for the games played on the weekend of April 15-16, Week #15 of the 2011 regular season.
Merrill of the Edmonton Rush has been named the Transition Player of the Week. Merrill picked up 21 loose balls, scored a goal and added three assists for a total of four points in an 18-14 win over Toronto. Merrill enters his third season with the Nationals in 2011 and has won the Warrior Defensive Player of the Year for the past five seasons. He has also won three MLL championships.
Rubisch wins Rookie of the Week honors. Rubisch helped anchor a defense that held the Bandits to nine goals. He also scooped up ten loose balls and forced one turnover in a 16-9 victory at Buffalo. The defenseman was the Nationals' first-round selection (first overall) in the 2011 MLL Supplemental Draft. He was dominant in his senior season at Dowling College, earning First Team All-American and All-Conference honors.
The Nationals open their season on the road on Saturday, May 14th against the Denver Outlaws at 9:00 p.m. Hamilton plays its home opener on Thursday, May 19th at Les Prince Field at Ron Joyce Stadium on the grounds of McMaster University. The 7:30 p.m. contest features the defending MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks.
