(Hamilton, April 27)… Two members of the Hamilton Nationals lacrosse team were honored today with weekly awards.Cody “Jammer” Jamieson and Jordan Hall, who both play for the Rochester Knighthawks, have been honored for their efforts in the team’s 15-9 victory over the Buffalo Bandits last Saturday. For the sixth time this season, Jamieson has been named the National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week. Hall was named the Transition Player of the week for the fifth time.
In the regular-season finale, Jamieson scored three goals and added four assists en route to his first NLL Rookie of the Month award and sixth Rookie of the Week honors. With the seven points, he also won the rookie scoring race. The last time that happened in Knighthawks history was in 2000 when John Grant Jr. led all NLL rookies. Jamieson led the Knighthawks with 28 goals this season as part of a 53-point rookie season.
Hall was named the Transition Player of the Week for the fifth time this season after recording two goals, one assist and five loose balls. In his last five games, he has 10 goals and seven assists. Hall opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the contest and assisted on the third Rochester goal as the Knighthawks raced out to an early 6-0 lead against the Bandits.
“Our team has really come together toward the end of the year. I think with so many new faces in the lineup it takes half a season to really get comfortable with the guy next to you,” said Hall. “Some of the vets on the team went out of their way off the floor to do some things that made the team tighter. That work is starting to show on the floor. We still have a long way to go, but you couldn't ask for a better time to start gelling.”
The Knighthawks will face the East Division rival Toronto Rock in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday, May 1st. The 3:30 p.m. game will be broadcast live on The Zone 94.1 FM and www.thezone941.com. The contest will also be carried on TSN2 and the NLL Network.
The Nationals open their season on the road on Saturday, May 14th against the Denver Outlaws at 9:00 p.m. Hamilton plays its home opener on Thursday, May 19th at Les Prince Field at Ron Joyce Stadium on the grounds of McMaster University. The 7:30 p.m. contest features the defending MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks.
