Four Nats players help Team Warrior to victory Saturday
(Rochester, July 10)… Hamilton Nationals goalie Joe Marra made 10 saves in the second half to lead Team Warrior to a 21-20 victory over Team Authority at Saturday’s 2011 Sports Authority MLL All-Star Game in Boston. Marra was one of four Nationals on the winning side at the contest at Harvard Stadium at 7:00 p.m. live on ESPN Classic and ESPN3.com.
The Nats’ Joe Walters netted two goals and collected two ground balls. The game was the fourth All-Star appearance for Walters, who leads the Hamilton Nationals with 27 points (11+1+15). Brodie Merrill collected three ground balls, and Geoff Snider won 17 faceoffs and gathered five ground balls.
“It's always exciting to be a part of the All-Star game. The MLL is an incredible league and to be out on the field with these guys is such an honor,” said Snider.
Team Warrior won the contest on a goal by Stephen Peyser with 2:49 to play. Denver's Brendan Mundorf (1+3) and Boston's Brad Ross (3+1+0) led the offense with four points apiece during the game. For Team Authority, Michael Kimmel was named the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game for his nine-point performance on five goals, including three two-point goals. This broke the MLL All-Star record for points.
The Nationals (4-3) will host the Chesapeake Bayhawks (4-3) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16th. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com.
“At the midway point of the season, I think we are in good shape. Our team is coming together nicely,” said Walters. “Being a veteran in this league, it's all about peaking at the right time, we are on our way, we just have to continue building on each week and play our best lacrosse at the end.”
