DAVIS SHARES HIS LOVE FOR LACROSSE

(Hamilton, August 11)… Hamilton Nationals midfielder Jarrett Davis celebrated his 24th birthday with family on Monday, as his parents flew in from Port Moody, BC, to share in their son's lacrosse career. That night, Davis collected six points (1+5) for the Brampton Excelsiors in Game 3 of their Major Series Lacrosse Semifinal series.

The next morning Davis was at Logan Field on the Tonawanda Seneca Nation Reservation as part of the Native Vision program. The second-year pro instructed the 25 kids that ranged from third to 12th grade at 7032 Council House Road in Basom, NY. The kids ran drills and held a breakaway competition for older and younger kids. Gates Abrams won the older age group and is pictured with Davis wearing first prize, a Knighthawks golf windbreaker.

“The facilities are great,” said Davis about the two-year-old outdoor box. “Any time you can teach a younger kid and put a smile on their face is exciting. It’s pure enjoyment why they are playing lacrosse.”

Davis ran a two-hour lacrosse session and spoke to the 50 kids at the skills and life camp. The three-day camp (August 8-10) also include appearances by NBA players and the Harlem Globetrotters Legends. The Native Vision program was established by Johns Hopkins University to promote four major areas of well-being for participating children and families: Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Families and Healthy Communities.

Davis, who was Hamilton’s ninth-round selection (49th overall) in the 2011 MLL Supplemental Draft, is in his rookie season in Major League Lacrosse. He has three goals and one assist in six games. Davis finished his college career at Bellarmine University with 39 goals and 44 assists, which ranks him third on the career assists list. He finished his first National Lacrosse League season in third place in rookie points with 24 (12+12). Davis was named the co-winner of the Knighthawks’ Community Service Award.

Overview:
The Native Vision program is an unprecedented youth enrichment and empowerment initiative for American Indian children, operated by the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health (Center) in partnership with the National Football League Players Association.  Founded in 1996, by Johns Hopkins, the NFL Players Association and the Nick Lowery Charitable Foundation, Native Vision has mobilized dozens of professional athletes as mentors to serve thousands of American Indian youth in health and education programs designed by Johns Hopkins public health experts.
