NATIONALS' FANS LEARN WHERE 'WALDO' IS

(Hamilton, December 1)… The age old question, “Where is Waldo?” has been answered. Well, at least according to Hamilton Nationals lacrosse fans. Five days a week, Nats defenseman Steven Waldeck, known as “Waldo to his teammates, heads to LA Fitness to lift or shoot hoops. The Levittown, NY, native recently completed his second season in Major League Lacrosse after earning first trip to the MLL Finals.
The former Stony Brook standout let’s fans know his offseason plans, what he expects to find under his Christmas Tree and why it would be cool to be goalie Brett Queener for a day.
Question and Answer
1.) Now that the season has been over for a couple of months, what were you thoughts about last season? Was a year to remember after a tough season my rookie year. Adding Powell to play, and to be around a guy like that, is something everyone needs to experience.
2.) What was so memorable about 2011? Most memorable was hands down playing in Hurricane Irene and winning to go the championship.
3.) How did Regy Thorpe and Gary Gait change the direction of the team this season? They came in showed respect and demanded respect. They made the lineup changes based only on skill and fit in with the team. They weren’t afraid to call people out who needed a reality check. They demand dedication to the NATS and not other teams.
4.) Who was the team’s Unsung Hero? Kyle “Ruby” Rubisch can and did mark up the best attackmen week after week and did a great job.
5.) What have you been doing to stay fit in the offseason? I lift five days a week and play basketball all at LA Fitness. It is the best gym ever… LOVE IT! Bigger, faster, stronger.
6.) Is lacrosse still a part of your everyday life? Not playing every day, but reading articles and watching videos.
7.) What do you want for Christmas? Rims and flat black paint job for my Mustang.
8.) Could 2012 be the year of the Nationals? The second half of 2011 was scary how we gelled and started to string wins together and became a complete team on and off the field.
9.) On a lighter side, if you could be one of your teammates for one day, who would you be and why? I would be Brett Queener because he is NUTS… ha…ha!
