CATCHING UP WITH DAVID EARL

The Notre Dame product was the Nationals’ third-round selection (13th overall) in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft. He ended his inaugural MLL season with a trip to the MLL Finals. During the regular season, Earl was third on the team with 17 goals and fifth in points with 22. It was a smooth transition to the pro game for the 2011 First Team All-American and BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year. Earl took some time away from training to recap 2011.

 

1.) Now that the season has been over for a couple of months, what were you thoughts about last season? I thought the season was an absolute blast. We had a very young team with a bunch of guys who got along really well. I felt by the end of the season our team molded together and really knew how to play with one another. 

 

2.) What was so memorable about 2011? I think just the group of guys was the best part about the year. Everyone became very close by the end of the season. 

 

3.) How did Regy and Gary change the direction of the team this season? Regy and Gary just bring a lot of passion to the team. They care so much about the players and the game of lacrosse. Our team kind of fed off that. In addition to that they know a ton about the game and were able to bring the best out of the players we had.

 

4.) Who was the team’s Unsung Hero? I am not sure if there was one. We had a very well-rounded team in which everyone contributed their fair share. We had no selfish players and when you have that on a team you are destined to go far.

 

5.) What have you been doing to stay fit in the offseason? I have been in the gym working out and running a ton. I took a break from lacrosse and put the stick down for a bit but am back into it now. 

 

6.) Is lacrosse still a part of your everyday life? Absolutely. Over the past months I started a company with my coach from high school (Peter Newman - Westminster School head lacrosse coach in Simsbury, Conn.) called 2Way Lacrosse. Website just went live at www.2waylacrosse.com. We will be having five weeks of camp through the summer in Connecticut (3 week) & in Massachusetts (2 weeks) along with an apparel line coming soon. I also decided to not pursue the NLL and play for the Wilkes-Barre Shamrocks in the NALL. I recently signed with them and looking forward to getting back into playing some competitive lacrosse. I think the league is going to be great.

 

7.) Could 2012 be the year of the Nationals? I sure hope so. We have what it takes so why not?

 

8.) On a lighter side, if you could be one of your teammates for one day, who would you be and why? Tough question. Probably Ridgway so I could know what it feels like to be eight-feet taller than everyone else.
