MLL to Host 2012 Championship Weekend in Boston

Hamilton has seventh overall pick in next Friday’s draft
(Hamilton, January 4, 2012)-- Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today it will host the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend on August 25th and 26th at the historic Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass., according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Harvard Stadium is the home venue of the 2011 MLL Champion Boston Cannons.
“We are pleased to bring Championship Weekend back to Boston in 2012,” said MLL Commissioner David Gross. “We have had proven event success in Boston as evidenced by past Championship Weekends and the overwhelming support of our 2011 MLL All-Star Game, which was held at Harvard Stadium.”
This will mark the fourth time Major League Lacrosse will host its championships in Boston. In 2004 and 2005 MLL hosted semi-final and championship games at Nickerson Field and in 2008 at Harvard Stadium. The MLL Championship format includes the top four ranked teams which will compete in two semifinal games on Saturday, August 25th. The first semifinal begins at 1:00 pm ET and the second semifinal starts at 4:00 pm ET. The two winning teams will advance to the Championship Game, which will take place on Sunday, August 26th at 1:00 pm.
The Nats head into the 2012 season after an impressive 2011 campaign that landed the team in the league Finals. After finishing with a 7-5 record, Hamilton knocked off Denver to advance to the MLL title game, but fell one goal shy to the Cannons, 10-9.
The Nationals will have a chance to bolster their roster on Friday, January 13th at the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft in Philadelphia. The Nationals have the seventh overall pick in the draft, which will take place from 8:30 to 11:00 pm at the Marriott Liberty Ballroom.
The Nationals will open the 2012 season against the Denver Outlaws, on Saturday, May 5th at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Hamilton makes its home debut on Friday, May 18th with an 11:00 a.m. contest against the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Ron Joyce Stadium at McMaster University.
