Thirty kids spent two days learning from the three-time World Champion and four-time college All-American on August 13th and 14th. Walters enjoys this time of year because he can focus on training local kids and helping them reach their goals.
“I take pride in working with the next generation of our sport. I always tell kids, what makes lacrosse a great sport, and why I love it so much, is that anybody can be a future college All-American, or play professionally in the NLL or MLL,” said Walters. “If you put forth the effort, you will succeed. That's the beauty of lacrosse. Working with kids in Rochester, I want them to see me as an example of this and set the same goals I had and work as hard as they possibly can to reach those goals.”
In 2012, the former Irondequoit High School star finished fifth in the NLL in playoff points (13) en route to his first NLL Championship. He was also tied for first on the team in postseason assists with nine. During the regular season, Walters recorded a career-high 13 assists.
In 2012, with the Hamilton Nationals, Walters was fifth in Major League Lacrosse with a career-high 46 points. He also recorded a career-best 28 assists, as he led the Nationals in assists and points. This season, he played in his fifth MLL All-Star Game and has been named an All-MLL Team selection three times (2008-09, 2011). Walters was recently named to Team USA for the September 8th “Duel in Denver” exhibition game against Team Canada.
