Brodie Merrill will once again wear the “C” for his professional indoor lacrosse team. Merrill enters his eighth season in the National Lacrosse League in 2013, and second with the Philadelphia Wings.
“We are fortunate to have strong leadership from many different players, which is a good sign heading into the season,” Merrill told the Wings website.
In 2012, the 31-year-old was fourth in the NLL with 157 loose balls. The Orangeville, Ontario was named a Second Team All-Pro and was selected to play in the 2012 NLL All-Star Game. In his career, he played in 111 games and recorded 95 goals, 194 assists and 1,371 loose balls. Merrill was named the first overall pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft out of Georgetown University where he was a two-time First Team All-American and was named Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season.
In the MLL, Merrill enters his fifth season with the Nationals and ninth in the league. In 2012, he was named to the All-MLL Team for the seventh consecutive year. The defenseman ranked third in the MLL with 96 ground balls in 13 games while contributing four goals, including a two-point marker, and six assists. A six-time selection as the Warrior Defensive Player of the Year, Merrill holds the MLL record with 620 career ground balls while scoring 39 goals, including three two-point markers, with 66 assists in 91 career games.
